At The Cross

One morning shortly after our wedding I heard the tap-tap-tap sound of a hammer pounding a nail into a wall. I went to investigate and I found Cindy happily hanging the first of many Crosses that she had brought with her into the marriage. Since then her collection of Crosses has continued to grow.

Fast forward to March, 2016. We had been discussing ideas for our 2017 calendar; one of these involved pictures of churches that we had taken during our travels together. We took a trip to Old Town San Diego and explored Immaculate Conception Church. After taking pictures inside the church we wandered into the gift shop and saw a wonderful collection of Crosses. One Cross in particular stood out; to us it communicated the amazing love of the triune God and the price paid for our salvation. We brought the Cross home with us and the theme for our 2017 calendar was decided; we would do a calendar on the Cross, and our new Cross would be the cover photo for the calendar.

The next problem we had to tackle was the format or aspect ratio for the calendar. All of our prior calendars have been published in what is called landscape mode where the horizontal size is greater than the vertical size of the picture. A Cross, however, is in portrait mode - the vertical size is greater than the horizontal size. We finally decided to use a square page format for the calendar with text alongside the portrait of the Cross.

Cindy's poem, At The Cross, on the December page of the calendar was inspired as we were reviewing the printer's proof copy of the calendar. We knew this poem had to be included, so we made a last minute adjustment and put the poem on the December page of the calendar as one final reminder of the love Christ has for us. The Cross is central to our Christian faith and reminds us of the love that Jesus Christ has for us. We have been enriched as we have assembled this calendar and it is our hope that you wil also be enriched by the love of Christ every day of the year as you gaze upon the Crosses in our calendar.
